The "Right to Repair" movement in South Africa advocates for consumers' freedom to choose where to service and repair their vehicles, including the ability to use independent service providers without voiding their warranties. This contrasts with previous practices where manufacturers could invalidate warranties if vehicles were not serviced at dealerships. The Competition Commission has issued guidelines, now in effect, to promote competition in the automotive aftermarket by allowing consumers to service their vehicles at independent providers.
